SÁMI FILMS RISING ANÁR: Spotlight on TV series

The International Sámi Film Institute presents Sámi Films Rising at the Skábmaovat 2026, this year with a special focus on Sámi TV-series.

The past few years have marked the beginning of a golden era for Sámi screen storytelling, defined not only by a surge in feature films but also by the emergence of powerful Sámi television series. These series have won awards, received nominations for prestigious international industry prizes, and been sold to audiences far beyond Sápmi.

What strategies have made this success possible? How is it shaping the film and television industry – and what impact does it have on Sámi society itself? Most importantly, how can we ensure that this positive momentum continues into the future?

When and where: Saturday January 24, 2026, 17:00, Sajos, Inari

The panel features insights from Ken Are Bongo (Ciao Ráhkis), Vegard Bjørsmo and Silje Burgin Borch (Oro jaska), and Åse Kathrin Vuolab (Heajastallan), followed by perspectives from public broadcasters Johan Ailo Kalstad (NRK) and Jarmo Lampela (YLE).

The conversation will be moderated by ISFI Film Commissioner Silja Somby, and will be in english.

Sámi Films Rising is part of ISFI’s ongoing work to strengthen Sámi film development and to showcase the breadth, ambition, and artistic power of today’s Sámi film industry.
