Meet NRK in Guovdageaidnu – Heajastallan Shares Insights
The highly anticipated drama series Heajastallan / A Sami Wedding is set to premiere soon on NRK, already making waves in international series markets. Created by Åse Kathrin Vuolab, the series is a collaboration and a co-production between Merfilm, Tordenfilm, and Forest People.
To celebrate and learn from this process, the International Sámi Film Institute (ISFI) and NRK invite the Sámi film and TV Industry to an exciting event in Guovdageaidnu from 6 to 7 April. The event will feature a pre-screening and a full-day seminar on storytelling, collaboration, and the future of Sámi narratives on screen.
Join us and explore Sámi Storytelling with NRK! This event is a must for filmmakers, producers, and creators looking to expand Sámi storytelling on screen. This event offers a rare opportunity to engage with key industry figures and discuss:
- What is it like to collaborate with NRK?
- What is NRK’s vision for Sámi stories?
- How can we strengthen Sámi storytelling together?

The sessions will be in English. This workshop is a part of the Arctic Indigenous Screenwriting Workshop.
Part 1 – Inside the Story
A deep dive into Heajastallan with creator Åse Kathrin Vuolab, exploring the writing process, character development, and narrative choices. Group discussions will follow.
Part 2 – Scene Breakdown
Screenwriters Åse Kathrin Vuolab and Jørgen Hjerdt in conversation with Jan Ødegårdstuen (NRK), taking a deep dive into selected scenes.
Part 3 – Understanding NRK Drama
Marianne Furevold, Head of NRK Drama, presents how NRK Drama operates and what NRK seeks in new projects.
Part 4 – Strengthening Sámi Storytelling for TV
A panel discussion on industry collaboration featuring ISFI, NRK Drama, NRK Sápmi, Forest People, and YLE. Moderated by Liv Inger Somby.
Part 5 – Speed Dating with NRK and YLE
A unique networking opportunity for industry professionals to connect directly with key decision-makers.
The event includes lunch. The venue will be announced later. Participants are responsible for arranging their travel and accommodation. However, travel grants can be applied through our grant portal.
