A STANDARD FOR SUSTAINABLE FILM AND TV PRODUCTION IS BEING INTRODUCED

NORDIC ECOLOGICAL STANDARD (NES) IS BEING INTRODUCED

From 1 January 2026, the Nordic film and TV industry will introduce a common sustainability standard for production, the Nordic Ecological Standard (NES). The International Sámi Film Institute will implement the standard from 2026.

PRODUCTION FUNDINGS

From January 2026, the International Sámi Film Institute (ISFI) requires sustainability reporting for projects receiving production funding, in line with the Nordic Ecological Standard (NES). Projects must comply with NES unless the production budget is below NOK 1,000,000 at the time of application.

In the initial phase, the reporting is intended to raise awareness and build insight into how the industry works with sustainability. There are currently no sanctions for not fully meeting all standard requirements. For more information about Nordic Ecological Standard (NES), please visit the Norwegian Film Institute here and The Five Nordics here.
