ISFI Grants 2.1 MNOK to Seven Productions

Five short films, one documentary, and one animation received production grants totaling 2.1 MNOK in the second application round of this year.

Stálluboy’s gaming session is suddenly interrupted when his father’s antics cause an explosion that destroys his computer. With no money for a new machine, he teams up with a witch to find quick cash. Along the way, they encounter strange figures and treasures from Sámi mythology.

Author Aslak Poulsen retreats to an old cabin to write, unaware that the cabin is built on the ruins where the noaidi Anders Poulsen was killed in 1692. When the god-fearing neighbor Villum Gundersen appears, Aslak is pulled into an ancient spiritual battle between the Sami and Christian faith.

Ahlakorpi blends stand-up comedy style punchlines and short one-liners with longer stories, where he explores the friend zones between North and South, Finnish and Sámi identities, examining society and what it means to live as a Sámi language Finnish person in Sápmi.

Tom, a Sami elder, is weighing whether to break the silence around secret offering traditions, while a young, modern Sami woman Ramona is searching for guidance into the traditions. Will the ancient knowledge be lost for ever? Or will she discover something worth passing on?

The production grant aims to secure the best possible quality of the film project. The grant is given to stimulate films in the Sami language and strengthen Sami filmmakers and producers.

Application deadlines for production grants are February 1st, May 1st, September 1st and December 1st.
