BFF – Conference 2026:
The Position of Children’s Film in Uncertain Times

Picture by Kristiansand International Children’s Film Festival Conference.
The International Sámi Film Institute is participating in the Kristiansand International Children’s Film Festival Conference, contributing to ongoing industry conversations on diversity and representation in children’s cinema.
As part of the conference program, ISFI’s film consultant Siljá Somby will take part in the panel discussion “How does diversity actually function in Norwegian children’s films beyond percentages?”
About the Panel:
So far, the discussion on diversity in the film sector has largely focused on statistics, percentages, and reporting. The numbers are important—especially in an industry that manages public funding—but they say little about how children and young people are actually represented on screen. Who gets to be the protagonist? Which experiences, families, and perspectives are considered universal? And how are these stories evaluated in development, production, and distribution?

When: Friday 24 April 2026
Where: Kristiansand, Norway, Clarion Hotel Ernst, BFF: Konferansen.
Children’s film is a key priority area for the International Sámi Film Institute. The institute is actively working to strengthen Sámi representation for young audiences, including efforts to increase Sámi-language dubbing of films and to improve access to stories in the Sámi languages. Through its participation at the festival, ISFI continues to engage in important discussions about how to create a more inclusive and representative film landscape for Sámi children and youth.
