ISFI invites Sámi filmmakers to participate in a competition where filmmakers across Norway are challenged to create a film using AI tools within one weekend. The goal of the competition is to learn how to use AI in film production. 

Competition dates: May 9–11, 2025

The goal of the competition is to learn how to use AI in film production.
Location: The film will be produced at Duottar Studios in Guovdageaidnu without a film set.
Support: Each filmmaker will receive guidance from a mentor and an AI expert, as well as necessary technical support. The process will be filmed.
Budget: NOK 5,000 will be provided to support the AI film project and the participants.

Other requirements:

• The film will be produced based on the same two-page script.
• The script includes two characters and only dialogue.
• The filmmaker determines the setting.
• Participants will receive the script on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 19:00.
• The premiere screening of the winning film will be held in Oslo on May 21, 2025.

ISFI will nominate one Sámi filmmaker to participate in the competition. As part of the experience, ISFI may kindly ask the selected participant to later share their insights with other Sámi filmmakers, helping to explore how AI can be used in film production. As part of the competition, an online course will be held on May 9, 2025, and we encourage all Sámi filmmakers to participate. Access to the course will be available through our website and social media. The name of the competition is Cinema Synthetica S2.

Guidelines:

1. All films must use the same script.
2. Dialogue can only be added, not removed.
3. There must be at least two consistent characters throughout multiple scenes.
4. The film must have a minimum length of 2 minutes and a maximum length of 5 minutes.
5. All footage must include some form of AI-based style transfer.
6. It is not permitted to use copyrighted characters.
7. No props or costumes may be brought in at the start of the competition.
8. Each team will have a budget of 5000 NOK, which they can use as they wish.
9. There are no restrictions on workflow or equipment.

MORE ABOUT CINEMA SYNTHETICA SEASON 2

Cinema Synthetica Season 2 will feature handpicked filmmakers from across Norway who will be challenged to create an AI-generated short film in just 48 hours — all based on the same script. Each team will have access to an editing suite in their respective cities from May 9–11, along with a workstation equipped with the necessary software, camera equipment, and a budget of 5,000 NOK. The team will have 48 hours to plan, produce, edit, and master a finished short film from start to finish.
